Principal Investigator

Prof. ROBERT BOGDANOWICZ, DSc, PhD

Robert Bogdanowicz (born 1976) received his Ph.D. degree with honours in Electronics from the Gdansk University of Technology in 2009. He worked as a post-doc researcher at Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Universität Greifswald Institut für Physik (2009-2011), where he initiated optical emission imaging of multi-magnetron pulsed plasma and contributed to the development of antibacterial implant coatings deposited by high-power impulse magnetron sputtering. He returned to Gdansk University of Technology in 2011 as an assistant professor working on the semiconductor, thin diamond film nanostructures, progressing to Full Professor in 2024 and currently chairs the Department of Optoelectronics.
Since 2016, he has served as Head of the DIAMONDIZED ELECTRONICS GROUP and maintains ongoing collaborations as a Visiting Researcher at the California Institute of Technology in Prof. William Goddard’s group, where he held Fulbright Senior Scholar position (2015-2016, 2023-2024). His research focuses on developing sustainable technologies based on diamond-rich carbon nanomaterials for electrochemical, optical and quantum sensing applications in biomedicine and environmental monitoring, as well as energy storage devices and water treatment. He specializes in CVD diamond growth, particularly boron-doped nanoarchitectures, deuterium-enhanced synthesis techniques, and doped diamond particles formation.
Prof. Bogdanowicz has been Principal Investigator of numerous research projects funded by national and international agencies, including major NCBR strategic programs (TECHMATSTRATEG, HYDROSTRATEG) focusing on advanced sensing platforms and intelligent water treatment systems. He has also led NATO Science Programme initiatives and multiple NCN grants. He has published more than 250 scientific papers in high-impact journals and obtained more than 10 patents, with his diamond-based sensing and water treatment technologies. He serves as Associate Editor for multiple JCR journals including Diamond and Related Materials and Open Physics, and has been recognized among the World’s TOP 2% Scientists by Stanford University. He is a certified IPMA project manager, EU and national expert and evaluator and industrial advisor.
